Size and Weight

The 106 Minn Kota is more of a compact design, but features a heavier hull design to compensate for having an electric motor and batteries in addition to the typical gear of a fishing kayak. The kayak clocks in at 10’6” (320 cm) long and 37” (94 cm) wide, which provides it with excellent stability on the water. With motor, battery, seat, and other items, the Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota weighs 104 lbs (47 kg). 

Capacity 

The Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota has a maximum capacity of 525 lbs (238 kg), but the available capacity for an angler plus gear is 390 lbs (177 kg) after factoring in all of the equipment needed to power the kayak.

There is no shortage of great features on the Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota.

The Minn Kota motor design features a low profile allowing anglers to stand on the deck and move around a bit. The kayak is powered by a 45 lb thrust 12V saltwater-ready battery that has surprising power.

Next to the seat is a powerboat-style throttle with a built-in battery meter that makes the Sportsman 106 easy to control, especially when factoring in the foot-brace, hands-free steering setup. The motor console can be lifted and locked into place to ensure no damage occurs when landing the kayak, or going over shallow banks.

The console offers a watertight storage hatch that’s capable of storing a wide variety of valuables and other gear items.

The Sportsman 106’s seat is as impressive as any in terms of comfort and functionality. The dual-layer Textilene seat is very comfortable, as well as UV resistant to keep the heat off your back. The seat is also made from breathable material that dries quickly to make sure you stay dry on the water.

The kayak also features two gear mounts in front of the seat, and two more on either side of the stern for easy mounting of accessories like rod holders, electronics, and camera gear. The Sportsman 106 also offers three total rod holders. 

The cockpit’s deck area is lined with foam-padded EVA material that helps provide excellent footing, even in wet conditions. Anglers will find that the Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota comes standard with a paddle, fish measuring board, and tackle boxes.

With a deployable rudder, users can choose when to add extra tracking ability and can easily raise the rudder when landing the kayak.

The Sportsman 106 is also equipped with through-hull wiring kits and a universal transducer mount that lets anglers install their favorite electronic equipment in no time.

The electric motor is lead-acid or lithium-ion battery compatible and does not come standard with a battery. The battery box is located underneath the seat.

The Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota also has plenty of storage options from small pockets on the side of the cockpit to a front and back dry hatch. There is a storage well on the bow, and another on the stern that’s equipped with bungee cords.

Performance 

The Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota has a hull design that makes it extremely stable and quick on the water. At full thrust, the kayak can reach speeds up to 5 miles per hour in most cases. The motor also has backward and forward capability and the foot-brace steering gives plenty of control. The Sportsman 106 also has excellent stability and great battery life. The overall controls are very easy to use and take little time to get used to for most anglers. Users can easily remove things like the seat, motor console, and other gear to make this kayak highly portable and able to go nearly anywhere.
