Size and Weight
The Sorrento 106sk is 10’3” (312 cm) long with a beam of 29” (73.7 cm), which is about average for recreational kayaks. This length provides a good mix of performance and ease of paddling, so it’s a good option for newer kayakers that are looking to improve their skills. It also has a deck height of 13.75” (35 cm), which is also average for this size of kayak.
With a weight of 45 lbs (20.4 kg), the Sorrento 106sk is on par with other boats its size. For comparison, the Perception Sound 10.5 has a similar length and is just slightly heavier at 46 lbs (23 kg).
As far as maximum weight capacity goes, this boat can accommodate up to 300 lbs (136.1 kg). That being said, it’s best to leave a small weight buffer with any boat, keeping the total weight of you and your gear below 80% of a kayak’s maximum capacity.
Thus, the Sorrento 106sk is for kayakers who plan to load their boat with up to 240 lbs (108.9 kg) of total weight. It is best for smaller to average-sized paddlers and shorter trips where the overall weight of your gear is at a minimum.
Striking a balance between performance and functionality, the Sorrento 106sk has some great features for new and intermediate paddlers.
It has an Active Comfort System 2.0 Seat, which provides a fully-adjustable and ergonomically designed backrest for maximum comfort. The cockpit on this boat is also extra spacious, giving paddlers plenty of legroom for longer days on the water.
To help you secure your most essential gear while on the water, Old Town designed the Sorrento 106sk with multiple deck bungees. That way, you can quickly lash down your water bottle and maps for easy access.
Plus, since this boat has a spacious rear dry hatch with a click seal cover, it offers a surprising amount of gear storage space for camping. On the inside of the cockpit, the front of the kayak also offers ample gear storage space for shorter paddlers.
The Sorrento 106sk was designed with newer paddlers in mind, so it has a rounded hull in the middle. This helps to provide the stability that many novice and intermediate paddlers enjoy for added peace of mind on the water.
However, Old Town also recognized that kayakers need a bit more maneuverability in their boat as they start to progress with their skills. So, they gave the Sorrento 106sk a sharp keel line that provides a bit more of an ability to glide through the water.
Finally, this kayak has foot braces as well as a drop skeg to improve performance. This skeg, in particular, allows for increased tracking ability when paddling long distances and it easily retracts in shallow water for maximum maneuverability.
