Size and Weight

The AutoPilot 120 is a full 12’ (370 cm) in length and 37” (94 cm) wide, which means it offers superb stability on the water. One of the only downsides to this kayak is that it is much heavier than other models. The AutoPilot 120 tips the scales at 152 lbs (68.9 kg) which means it’s a bit harder to land and handle out of the water for some users. The motor console itself weighs 24 lbs, so expect to have some added weight that isn’t normal with other, paddle-driven brands and models.

Capacity

The overall capacity of the AutoPilot 120 is 558 lbs (253 kg), but that amount must accommodate for the hefty load of electronics each angler will have thanks to the Minn Kota motor and other features. The kayak’s on-board capacity is rated at 406 lbs (184 kg), which is still really good, even for a motorized model.

Features

The most stunning feature about the AutoPilot 120 is what the kayak derives its namesake from, the autopilot feature. Anglers have full control over the kayak’s course of direction using a small, handheld fob, or foot pegs for steering.

The motor is GPS compatible and can propel users to specific directions on the water using the touch of a button. Using the AutoPilot feature allows anglers to lock into a point of direction and use the time getting there to tie on another lure, enjoy their favorite cold beverage, or simply take in the natural beauty around them.

Minn Kota Spot-Lock motor on Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 120

The AutoPilot 120’s Spot Lock technology lets the kayak sit in place facing the same direction while the kayak itself makes any needed adjustments to account for wind or current that would otherwise pull a kayak off course.

The propeller can be stowed in the upright position using a lever next to the seat, and the motor console itself can be fully removed to make landing the kayak much less stressful. The motor is a 45 lb thrust 12V Minn Kota that offers plenty of speed and power to get you where you need to be.

Utilizing the hands free steering is perfect for trolling, or moving along at a steady pace throughout the particular body of water you’re on.

The kayak’s seat is also one of the most comfortable models on the market. The dual-layer textilene material is breathable and UV resistant to keep your back and rear-end dry and cool no matter what the weather outside is like. The seat is also fully adjustable and can be placed in the high or low position, or flipped up to create more foot room for anglers when they stand.

The large cockpit area’s deck features EVA foam padding that helps anglers grip the kayak and have more sure footing on the water. There are four different 18” gear tracks—two on the front and two on either side of the stern, which allow users to fully customize their rod holder placement, camera gear, or any other item they choose to mount.

The kayak comes “tournament-ready” with a fish measuring board that easily stashes out of the way inside of the kayak’s hull. The AutoPilot 120 also comes with a paddle, tackle box, and plenty of different places to stash valuables or equipment.

There is also a dry hatch located on the bow of the kayak where users can stow any gear they may need to keep dry and out of the elements. The stern offers a massive open well that is capable of holding two coolers and additional gear.

Performance

The AutoPilot 120 has a reputation that precedes itself thanks to all the amazing features and the state-of-the-art electric motor system. Users can literally turn on a dime using the footpegs, and the kayak is able to move along at a very good speed, especially when factoring in that the angler has to do virtually nothing to go from place to place on the water. The overall stability of the AutoPilot is superb and even the largest of users feel comfortable standing on the oversized deck.

The hands-free ability that this kayak has puts it into an entirely different level than others. The control mechanism allows users to spend more time fishing and less time operating their kayak—plain and simple.
