Old Town Predator MX

Size and Weight

With a total length of 12’ (3.7 m), the Old Town Predator MX is about average for a sit-on-top hunting and fishing kayak. However, it’s not unwieldy in transport, and it comes with molded handle grips on either end for more convenient carrying to and from your car.

Tipping the scales at 82 lbs (37.2 kg), the Predator MX is by no means a lightweight boat. However, this boat comes with a lot of fishing-specific features, so the added weight makes up for itself in terms of functionality.

Capacity

The Predator MX has a total weight capacity of 400lbs (181.4kg). Thanks to this high weight limit, this kayak is perfect for longer days on the water and for transporting the day’s catch in an ice-filled cooler. The Predator MX also has a large rear tank well for above-deck storage and a front dry hatch to allow you to bring as much gear as you want during your trips.

Features

One area where Old Town certainly didn’t slack off with the Predator MX is its features.

This kayak has an Element Seating System, which is completely removable and can be used as a beach chair. The seat on the Predator MX also provides you with a good vantage point above the kayak so you can get eyes on your target or find the best place to cast your lines.

It comes with molded paddle rest and a side-mount paddle storage system so you don’t have to worry about managing all your gear while on the water. The Predator MX even has rod tip holders and rod retainer bungees to keep your fishing gear in order.

With dual tackle holders, this boat is also perfect for paddlers that pack a lot of equipment for their time out on the water. It even has 6 removable mounting plates, each of which allows you to quickly install accessories without having to drill into your kayak.

Performance

When it comes to the Predator MX’s performance as a sportsman’s kayak, it doesn’t disappoint. Old Town crafted this boat with a unique Tri-Hull design. That means it offers excellent primary stability for added peace of mind on the water.

The boat’s great primary stability, in conjunction with its slip-resistant exo-ridge deck, also make it a nice option for anglers that like to stand up frequently to cast their lines.

As far as paddling goes, the Predator MX comes with a Support Track Foot Brace System. This lets you have better control over the boat and allows for increased maneuverability, which is ideal for navigating small waterways and rocky areas.

However, the kayak’s flat, round hull design, while great for primary stability and speed, isn’t ideal in windy conditions. Although the Predator MX can handle moving water, it’s best for flat conditions and calm days in sheltered areas.
