Description
Size and Weight
With a total length of 10’3” (312.4 cm) and a beam of 28.5” (72.4 cm), the Old Town Vapor Angler is on the longer end of the spectrum for a recreational kayak, though it’s not long enough to become unwieldy during transport. Like the Vapor 10XT, the Vapor Angler has an astonishingly large deck height of 16.75” (42.6 cm), which means it offers plenty of internal space to stretch your legs.
The Angler weighs in at 47 lbs (21.3 kg), which makes it a bit heavy for a recreational kayak of this size. However, when compared to some other similar fishing kayaks, the Angler is relatively light. This boat also has durable molded handles at the bow and stern for easier transport to and from the car.
Capacity
With a maximum weight capacity of 325 lbs (147.7 kg), the Angler provides enough carrying strength for most paddlers and a day’s worth of gear. Keeping in mind that it’s best not to load a boat beyond 80% of their maximum capacity, this kayak isn’t quite big enough, nor does it have the gear storage capacity for anything other than a day trip.
Features
The Old Town Vapor 10 Angler really shines in terms of features, especially for avid fisherfolk.
This kayak is built with an oversized cockpit that allows for easy entry and plenty of legroom. It has an adjustable Comfort Flex seat that offers great lumbar support and padding for a day out on the water. For convenience, this kayak has a molded cockpit tray with a built-in cupholder as well as a molded paddle rest for when you want to put your paddle down to cast your lines.
When it comes to fishing, the Vapor 10 Angler has everything necessary for seeking out the day’s catch. It is built with flush-mounted rod holders as well as an anchor trolley system. It also has a stern day well for storing the day’s haul.
While the boat does have a stern day well and a front deck bungee, it does not offer any dry storage. That said, the spacious cockpit on the Angler also provides a bit of storage space for smaller bits of gear in a dry bag.
Performance
Like its sister kayak, the Vapor 10XT, the Vapor 10 Angler provides a good mix of primary stability and tracking. Due to its mostly flat and wide hull at midship, this boat is fairly stable on calm water, while its V-shaped bow allows for decent slicing through the water.
Since it doesn’t have a skeg or rudder, the Vapor 10 Angler doesn’t track as well in windy conditions as it could. But the boat’s Glide Track foot brace system and thigh pads provide enough power and control to maneuver it on the water.
Ultimately, the Vapor 10 Angler performs well in what it was designed for – casual days on a local lake or river with a fishing rod in hand.
