Size and Weight

The Old Town Topwater 120 measures an even 12’ (3.7 m) long. This length helps provide natural tracking ability when paddling long distances but it isn’t so large that it’s unwieldy in transport. At 33.5 in (85.1 cm), it is a pretty wide boat, which promises great stability.

As far as weight goes, the Topwater 120 is a hefty boat. At 82 lbs (37.2 kg), this kayak is by no means light, especially when compared to the similarly sized (but thermoformed) Pelican Covert 120 Angler, which weighs in at 55 lbs (24.9 kg).

However, Old Town outfitted this boat with two burly built-in handles so you can easily lift it up onto the top of your car with the help of a friend.

Capacity

Perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of the Topwater 120 is its carrying capacity. With a maximum weight capacity of 500 lbs (226.8 kg), this boat is more than capable of carrying a heavier kayaker, or an average-sized paddler and a lot of gear.

Even when you factor in that one shouldn’t load a kayak beyond 80% of its carrying strength, the Topwater 120 is still ready to accommodate up to 400 lbs (181.4 kg) of weight.

Thanks to the boat’s generous maximum weight capacity and its two spacious gear storage compartments, it’s an ideal kayak for long days on the water with all your fishing gear. Plus, it’s even strong enough to accommodate all the equipment you need for a short overnight fishing trip on your local lake or river.

Features

Old Town didn’t skimp on features when designing the Topwater 120.

This boat comes with an innovative new universal transducer mounting system built right into the hull. That way, you can mount your personal fish finder to your new kayak without having to drill any holes that might compromise the integrity of your boat.

It also comes with an ElementAir seat, which has a high back and a fully adjustable strap system for maximum lumbar support. This seat is even made from super breathable mesh for added comfort on hot days.

To help you stay organized on the water while fishing, Old Town built this kayak with three rod holders – one of which is forward facing. The Topwater 120 also has an onboard rod and tackle storage system so you can focus more on casting lines and less on your gear.

Finally, this kayak features an extra-large stern tank well which is ready to accommodate a large fish cooler or any other gear you might have. It even has a dry storage hatch in the forward compartment to keep your most important pieces of gear safe on the water.

Performance

Performance and comfort don’t have to be mutually exclusive, and the Topwater 120 proves just that. This boat features Old Town’s signature DoubleU hull, which provides pontoon-style primary stability and maneuverability on flat water.

Thanks to this hull shape, this kayak is also one of the quietest in the water, allowing you to get to the fish before they know you’re around. Of course, this pontoon-style hull, while awesome in flat conditions, doesn’t provide much in the way of secondary stability, so it’s best for fishing on calm days.

For superior fishing performance, the Topwater 120 even has EVA foam deck pads, which provide ample traction and comfort for stand-up fishing.
