Size and Weight
With an overall length of 13’2” (400 cm) and a width of 33.5” (85 cm), this kayak has the length to provide great tracking and speed, and enough width for good stability. At 86 lbs (39 kg), the Predator 13 is a bit heavier than other kayaks of similar size. It also sits quite low in the water, which might be a downside to some heavier users.
As you might expect with a premium fishing kayak, Old Town designed the Predator 13 to have ample carrying capacity that will accommodate an angler, tons of fishing tackle, equipment, sonar and more. The kayak’s full capacity is 425 lbs (192.7 kg), but you can expect some water to come through the scupper holes if the Predator 13 is loaded down near full capacity.
The Predator 13 is designed specially for fishing and has all the features you would expect to find in a top-of-the-line fishing kayak.
It offers a very comfortable seat with the Element Seating System, which is highly adjustable and allows anglers to sit high above the kayak’s deck, or lower down for extra thrust when paddling. The seat’s only drawback is that it isn’t made of breathable material and might not dry as quickly as others. The seat can be flipped out of the way for extra standing room.
One of the main complaints users have about the Predator 13 is that it tends to have water come through the scuppers. This may not be a deal breaker for some, especially since the kayak features a slip-resistant deck that helps anglers get better footing when they need to stand up and focus on landing a trophy fish.
The Predator 13 also offers 6 removable mounting plates that allow users to have a very customizable experience by choosing what kind of gear they want to mount to their kayak and where. There’s no need to drill any holes into the kayak with these interchangeable mounting plates and it’s very easy to install things like rod holders, fish finders, camera gear and more.
The kayak also offers slide-mount paddle storage and a molded paddle rest for quick and easy storage of a paddle once users arrive at their fishing spot.
The large bow hatch is also a huge advantage the Predator 13 has over most fishing kayaks as users can store a wide array of gear inside and keep it out of the water.
With a transducer-ready scupper system, anglers will be able to easily install a fish or depth finder. The Predator 13 is most compatible with Hummingbird products, but anglers can opt for any type of fish finder and sonar equipment they choose.
Behind the seat are two rod holders that are specially positioned for trolling. The stern area also features a large-capacity tank well that is perfect for placing coolers, crates and other gear. The well area has bungee cords that help ensure all gear is tightly strapped down.
The center console features a mod pod that can hold a considerable amount of gear, and has a cover that offers multiple places to install a fishfinder display, paddle holder, and other gear.
The Predator 13 has great stability, which is crucial to a fishing kayak. It is very comfortable and is capable of holding a decent amount of gear with most average-sized users. The kayak’s larger body does slow it down quite a bit, but the overall design is geared more toward stability. The tri-hull design helps to cut through the water efficiently and provides excellent tracking in calm conditions. The Predator 13 sits very low in the water, which some users find to be an advantage.
