Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler is an affordable, yet high-quality fishing kayak that can become everything you need. Regardless of whether you’re into bass or fly fishing, this kayak can offer some serious reeling sessions.

Size and Weight

Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler is slightly shorter than its recreational SOT sibling. Measuring 9 ft 6 in (290 cm) in length, with a beam width of 30 in (76 cm), a deck profile of 13.25 in (33 cm), and weighing only 44 lbs (20 kg), it constitutes for an extremely compact and portable fishing kayak. We can compare it to lots of angler models on the market, yet very few of them will demonstrate a load capacity of 275 lbs (125 kg) for such a small body volume.

Depending on your weight, it is recommendable not to bring too much gear with this kayak. It offers plenty of room for your tackle and equipment, but it’s best not to exceed 80 percent of the boat’s carrying capacity if you prefer having a dry and enjoyable trip.

Materials

Like many other Pelican models, the Argo 80X is made of RAM-X material, which is a three-layer sheet of high-density polyethylene. The kayak is made using thermoforming technology. A sheet of RAM-X is heated up and stretched over a mold using vacuum. Two parts of the hull are then melted together, creating a strong bond.

Don’t be afraid that your kayak will leak or come apart at the seams. The seams are the strongest part of the hull!

Features

Even though it is best suited for smaller-framed to average paddlers, Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler does a great job of providing the fishing features and standability of more expensive models. Its unique storage and tackle compartments will spare you from bringing a crate while still being able to bring your standard gear required for spending a great day fishing.

Pelican Sentinel 100X comes with two toggle carrying handles on each end and two molded-in grips on the sides. Six scupper holes and a draining plug help with maintaining a dry kayak – in and out.

In the front, small tankwell with a rubber mesh cover can fit up to three standard Plano 3600 tackle boxed or other on-hand gear you need.

The molded flat surfaces behind the tankwell offer great locations for mounting swivel rod holders or GoPro camera if you’re a mod enthusiast.

For comfortable leg positioning while fishing or paddling, the Sentinel 100X Angler comes with a set of standard adjustable footrests.

The center console is bungee rigged and includes a bottle and a cup holder, as well as a smartphone holder. The hardcover console lid opens up and contains a shallow compartment for keeping your phone, keys and small items at hand.

Bungee tie-downs on each side serve as paddle parks.

The adjustable ERGOFORM™ padded backrest and seat are slightly lifted from the deck level and offer decent comfort and back support. However, for spending a whole day out on the water, you may need to bring an extra cushion and lumbar support pad.

Behind the seat, the Sentinel 100X Angler comes with two accessory mounting eyelets and flush-mounted rod holders positioned at an angle.

Moreover, you can stack the rear tankwell with a crate or cooler, or use the Pelican’s EXOPAK removable storage compartment that includes two additional rod holders and a separate set of bungees for securing your gear. You can pre-pack the removable EXOPAK at home and avoid wasting time before launching the kayak.

Performance

The multi-chine flat bottom hull enhances the Pelican’s renowned primary stability needed when casting lines and reeling in fish. Sentinel 100X Angler shows its best abilities during calm weather on sheltered lakes, slow-moving rivers and streams.

Pelican’s engineers designed the flat bottom hull to add “longer boat quality” to the kayak’s performance. Hence, better speed while paddling, excellent tracking, and highly responsive maneuverability. This 9 ft 6 in kayak can turn on a dime in river tights and moderate rapids.

With such versatility and fishability, Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler is interesting not only for novices but also for more experienced paddlers. Factory integrated foam blocks inside the hull add buoyancy as a safety feature that recreational paddlers and anglers appreciate in this kayak.
