Perception Pescador Pro 10.0
Designed to be efficient and stable, the Perception Pescador Pro 10 is the kayak you may want to check out if you like fishing rivers, lakes, and ponds. Outfitted to meet anglers’ requirements, it offers excellent performance for a relaxing day outdoors.
The Perception Pescador Pro 10 generously offers top quality make, comfort and confidence without breaking the bank. Its high on-water performance is one of the reasons why this boat remains ever-popular among paddlers and kayak anglers of all ages and sizes.
Size and Weight
The Perception Pescador Pro 10 is 10’6″ (323 cm) long, has a 32″ (81cm) beam, and 14″ (36cm) deck height. It is a lightweight boat of 57 lbs (26 kg). Its compact proportions and light weight ease the challenges over transportation, carrying, and storage.
Having a load capacity of 325 lbs (147 kg) for a boat that weighs only 57 lbs means that the Pescador Pro 10 has quite a balanced design. Even though bigger paddlers buy the boat and are happy with their experience, this model is better suited for people of average or smaller stature who do not exceed 80 percent of the kayak’s total weight capacity, gear included.
Perception makes their kayaks from a proprietary High-Density Polyethylene material using the company-specific, one-piece rotational molding technology. The process involves pouring beads of polyethylene into the mold, which gets heated up and slowly rotated so that the material fills up every nook and cranny. After the mold cools down, you get a one-piece, leak-proof construction that is extremely rugged and durable.
The Perception Pescador Pro 10 features two flush mount carry handles and two molded-in grips, one on each side of the cockpit.
In terms of storage, the kayak features a sizeable bow tankwell covered with stretch mesh to keep the gear or catch in place. It also doubles as a paddle park.
In the rear, an oversized tankwell secured with bungees can accommodate a crate and additional gear or tackle. Under the seat, the manufacturer provides a molded-in recess that fits one Plano 3600 tackle box. Two eyelets next to the chair serve to tie some tools or small accessories.
Behind the seat, there is a horizontally orientated, 5″ deck plate that is the only dry storage in-hull access point on the whole boat. However, this hatch is not easy to use while fishing because of its position and angle.
Apart from a set of standard, adjustable footrests, the cockpit includes a low-profile center pod that is fish finder ready and fits a transducer battery. It comes with an insert on the lid where you can fix the display.
The unique thing about the Pro 10 console is that it includes two cable outlets at the back that guide the battery wiring directly into the transducer scupper hole in the bow tankwell. Through the hole, the installation ends with a transducer recess at the bottom that includes all necessary inserts to secure the device. The console also features a cup holder.
In Perception’s Pescador line, the Pro 10 and Pro 12 are the models that come with a stadium-style chair. It features a removable aluminum frame, dual-layered mesh padding and excellent comfort for all-day fishing excursions. The seating is adjustable into two settings – high and low but it is recommendable to put plugs into the scupper holes under the seat if you prefer a pleasant and dry journey.
Although the Pescador Pro 10 is pretty limited with gear mounts, it does come rigged with inserts throughout the deck to custom accessorize the yak without having to drill holes in the hull.
The boat includes two plastic YakAttack gear tracks on each cockpit gunnel where you can attach rod holders, GoPro, or any gear of your choosing.
Behind the chair, the Pescador Pro 10 comes with two molded-in rod holders that are only 5.4″ deep. Thus, they cannot accommodate most of the fishing rods. As a solution, Perception offers the specially designed Rod-X Pro tapered rod holders that are compatible with all the Pescador and Sound models.
Lastly, the Pescador Pro 10 includes a replaceable skid plate that protects the stern keel and paddle tie-down on the left side of the cockpit.
For a 10-foot kayak, a 32″ beam guarantees excellent sitting stability. Even so, if your fishing style involves more standing than sitting, your stance in the cockpit isn’t going to be wide enough, hence, the balancing will take some practice. The taller you are, the more difficult you can reach this point.
For the most part, the Pro 10 handles all reasonable weather and water conditions pretty well.
The Pescador Pro 10 tracks pretty well and is capable to take a sharp turn very quickly, particularly when the paddler’s sitting in the low position. If you need better drift control during casting, installing an anchor is an easy fix.
Being a bit short for a 32″ beam means that this kayak cannot maintain speed unless you paddle. The Pro 10 is designed to offer stability and outstanding tracking while paddling or fishing.
If you need to cover long distances, prepare yourself for some hard paddling or consider buying the 12-foot version of the Pescador Pro instead.
Perception kayaks are warranted against material or manufacturing defects in the hull and deck for 5 years from the date of the original purchase of the kayak. Parts, accessories, and outfitting are warranted for one year.
