Size and Weight

With a length of 12’6” (3.8m), the Old Town Loon 126 Angler is among the longest of the fishing-ready recreational kayaks. This gives it improved tracking ability over its shorter counterparts. This boat also has a spacious 17.25” (43.8cm) deck height, so it provides enough room for taller paddlers.

It weighs in at 59 lbs (26.8 kg), which is about average for boats this size. That being said, the similarly-built Old Town Vapor 12 Angler is slightly smaller than the Loon 126 Angler, and is a bit lighter at 56 lbs (25.4 kg).

So, this boat is a reasonable weight for its build and is certainly portable enough for two paddlers to carry with its two hauling handles.

Capacity

The Loon 126 Angler does not disappoint in the weight capacity metric. Thanks to its stated 450lbs (204kg) weight maximum, this kayak is able to accommodate the majority of paddlers. It also offers enough strength to support a day’s worth of fish and all of your gear.

Features

When designing the Loon 126 Angler, Old Town’s engineers were focused both on fishing-specific features and all-around comfort.

In terms of comfort, they did not disappoint, outfitting this boat with their high-end Active Comfort System 2.0 (ACS2) Seat.

The ACS2 Seat is fully padded and is completely adjustable, allowing you to get just the right body position to keep you comfortable during a long day on the water. It’s also made with a mix of mesh and leather-style trim to provide breathability and durability at the same time.

As far as fishing-related features go, the Loon 126 Angler has two flush mounted rod holders behind the seat to help you store your rods out of the way but easily accessible. It also boasts an anchor trolley system, which is especially handy for adjusting the kayak’s position in the current or on windy days.

Other great aspects of the Loon 126 Angler include its large rear bulkhead and click seal dry hatch cover. For added convenience, this boat also has a removable workdeck that sports a USB charging station and a small storage space to stash your important bits of gear.

It also comes with a paddle clip to help you keep track of your paddle should you stop for a break or to make a cast.

Performance

Old Town knows how to combine comfort and performance into one boat, and the Loon 126 Angler is a great example of that. This kayak has a mostly rounded hull, which provides ample primary stability for paddling and casting lines.

This rounded hull also allows for plenty of maneuverability in tighter conditions. This, combined with the soft thigh pads and adjustable foot braces, makes controlling the Loon 126 an easy task.

Plus, this kayak has a sharp keel line and a fairly long hull for a recreational boat. Therefore, it tracks reasonably well in calm conditions, even without a skeg or a rudder.
