Description
Size, weight, capacity
The 393rl is 12 ft. 10 in. (391 cm) long, competing in length with some of Sea Eagle’s 3 person kayaks. At just 28 in. (71 cm) wide, the sleek profile means this boat cuts through the water with ease.
One of the main advantages of the 393rl is how portable it is. At 35 lbs. (16 kg), you may not want to carry it too far on your back, but this is an easy kayak to load into the trunk of a car and carry to and from the lake.
The 393rl has a load capacity of 500 lbs. (227 kg), which is loads for a solo paddler. You’ll easily fit all your kit into the boat alongside you, without coming close to overloading yourself.
Features
The RL series from Sea Eagle are notable for their RazorLight keel line. This rigid mold not only gives you a defined keel, but the sidewalls are designed to displace water cleanly and maximise straight line speed. A removable, swept back style skeg at the rear of the kayak minimises yaw, keeping you in a straight line.
The entire kayak is made with drop stitch technology, allowing you to inflate the 393rl to a higher pressure. The extra rigidity makes the boat more stable and responsive, and means it cuts through the water more effectively.
Spray skirts at the front and rear of the 393rl will help keep your ride dry, especially on rivers and coastal paddles. Any water that does make it onboard can be drained through the two open and close drain bungs.
Four D-rings are in place to secure your seat. The inflatable seating system is fully adjustable and highly supportive, not to mention really comfortable. FlexBrace foot rests keep you securely in the seat and can easily be adjusted on the move.
Performance
Historically, the issue with inflatable kayaks has been their ability in the wind, but no longer. The RazorLite keel system on the 393rl is designed to keep the boat moving in a straight line without impeding on the hull speed. Even in challenging conditions, this boat remains on course, cruising over the water with ease.
The length of the kayak and the sleek design both lend themselves to a great touring experience. Thanks to the drop stitch technology, this boat can be pumped up to 10 PSI, rather than the usual 4 or 5. The extra rigidity makes the 393rl paddle and respond like a rigid hull, rather than an inflatable.
All of this without losing the benefits, too. This is still a kayak which can be inflated quickly and easily, as well as deflated and carried to and from the lake. This is a touring kayak which not only outshines most other inflatables, but competes with some rigid hull boats.
