Size, weight, capacity
The 385ft is 12 ft. 5 in. (3.81 m) long and 36 in. (91 cm) wide. These dimensions give the boat a sleek feel and couple well with the external keel line to give it some quality tracking prowess.
Weighing just 35 lbs. (16 kg), the 385ft is one of the lightest 3 person touring kayaks on the market.
The capacity of the 385ft is 635 lbs. (288 kg). This gives you plenty of space for two adults, or two adults and a child, to go out on long trips. You can also carry all your equipment and even your overnight kit.
It’s easy to see that the main feature of the Sea Eagle 385ft is the NeedleKnife keel line. This external, high pressure inflatable keel is positioned along the front end of the boat, to give the kayak rigid boat performance.
To make this boat track even more effectively, there is a removable, swept back style skeg, at the rear. This can be removed easily if you want to tackle some white water.
Inflatable skirts at the bow and stern of the kayak will help prevent water coming in when you’re cruising down rivers or splashing through surf. Any water which makes it past these skirts can be easily drained through the two drain valves. These can be opened for rivers, but kept closed on lakes where you want to ride high and dry.
The 18 D-rings placed around the kayak are used to secure the seats in place and to stow your kit securely. Storage space is found under the spray skirts, which also have bungee fitted for smaller items.
The lightweight build of the 385ft will have you desperate to spend as much time on the water as possible. This is a kayak which packs down small and is easy to carry around, load into cars and take to the lake. It inflates quickly so you can be on the water without hassle.
Once on the water, you’ll notice how stable this kayak is. The touring style design and extra keel give this boat an extra level of security, without the need for high sides, which can make it difficult to paddle.
That keel which keeps the 385ft so stable also makes it track brilliantly, even across windy lakes. This really paddles like a rigid hulled kayak.
With so much space, you can easily fit three people into the 385ft, and the inflatable seats are comfortable and come with supportive backrests. The capacity isn’t the greatest, for a three person kayak, so watch out that you don’t overload your boat.
