Once fully inflated, the Intex Challenger K2 measures 11 ft. 6 in. (350 cm) long and 30 in. (76 cm) wide. This length and the streamlined cut of the Challenger K2 lets you carry a reasonable speed over the water. The width gives you room to get comfortable and makes it more stable, especially when you’re climbing in and out.

At just 38 lbs. (17.2 kg), Intex Challenger K2 is more than lightweight enough to load into the trunk of a car or truck bed single-handedly. Even with this lightweight design, you probably won’t want to carry this kayak too far. For longer hauls to the water, you can put the kayak into a backpack or share the load if there are two of you.

A capacity of 400 lbs. (181 kg) is enough to carry two smaller adults, or an adult and a child, as well as some gear.

Features

Intex Challenger K2 is made from lightweight vinyl that is durable enough for casual use. The kayak inflates in under ten minutes thanks to the Boston valve. The I-beam floor gives the kayak increased structure and rigidity without having to inflate it to higher pressure. This floor couples with the side chambers to make the Intex Challenger K2 stable enough for beginner kayakers.

The sidewalls of the Challenger K2 are low enough to reach over comfortably as you paddle and this low profile extends to the front deck. This front deck forms the enclosed portion of the kayak, offering protection from the elements and any small waves that spray over the bow.

Underneath this front deck, there is just enough space for the bow paddler to get comfortable, with the inflatable sides forming a supportive seating position. Intex has included an inflatable foot brace that provides additional support. This not only gives the bow paddler a more comfortable seat but also gives the front of the kayak more structure.

The inflatable seats are secured to the floor with velcro strips and attached with adjustable straps that hold the backrest in place. Also in the bag, Intex has included two collapsible paddles and a removable skeg. This skeg gives the Challenger K2 improved straight-line performance.

Performance

One of the most notable features of the Intex Challenger K2 is the inclusion of everything you need in the bag. With everything stowed all in one place, you can just grab one easy-to-load bag and you’re ready to hit the water.

The vinyl build that keeps the Challenger K2 lightweight is not as durable when compared with other, heavier-duty designs. This means finding a soft area to inflate your kayak and carrying it into the water at least ankle deep, perhaps slightly deeper, before launching.

Overall, the kayak performs well for the level it is aimed at. Paddling the Intex Challenger K2 is easy in the calm conditions it is designed for. The kayak is comfortable, though the seatbacks are only really suited to shorter journeys.

Some users have noted that the Challenger K2 has a bit of a wobble if you really put the power on, but as this is a kayak designed for gentle paddling, most people don’t find this to be an issue. Controlling the kayak from the rear seat is easy enough and the skeg does well to keep the Challenger K2 under control.
