Size and Weight

Pelican Sentinel 80X is 8 ft 4 in. (254 cm) long and 29.5 in. (75 cm) wide. It has a deck height of 12 in. (30 cm) and weighs 34 lb (15.4 kg). With a weight capacity of 225 lb (102 kg), it will easily support a smaller paddler plus some gear. For better performance, aim to stay within 80 percent of the max capacity of your kayak.

Materials

The Sentinel is made of Pelican’s proprietary RAM-X material. It’s a three-layer sheet of high-density polyethylene. The kayak is made using thermoforming technology. A sheet of RAM-X is heated up and stretched over a mold using vacuum. Two parts of the hull are then melted together, creating a strong bond. Don’t worry about your kayak leaking or coming apart at the seams – the seams are the strongest part of the hull!

Features

Pelican Sentinel 80X features a small front tank well with no bungee cords, molded footrests with three different positions, a dual-position bottle holder, a simple molded-in paddle holder, and a rear tank well with a bungee cord.

The seat is molded and has an Ergoform adjustable padded backrest.

The boat has carrying handles on the bow and stern plus molded-in side handles, so carrying and handling it will be easy.

Pelican Sentinel 80X is based on a twin-arched multi-chine hull which offers great primary stability and decent tracking ability. The kayak is self-bailing, so any water that gets in will drain out through the scupper holes in the deck.

Performance

Short kayaks like the Sentinel 80X are not fast and usually do not track very well. However, the Sentinel does a decent job for its size, providing a relaxed experience on shorter trips over calm waters. It can become a great first kayak for a teenager or a small adult, especially if ease of storage and transportation is a priority.

Warranty

Pelican Sentinel 80X is covered by Pelican’s limited lifetime warranty for the hull. Accessories that are pre-installed on the kayak are covered by a 1-year limited warranty. You can find more information about Pelican’s warranty terms here.
