Perception Pescador 13.0 Tandem

The Perception Pescador 13 Tandem offers incredible versatility and potential for personalizing the kayak according to your preferences and activities on the water. The highly flexible seating configuration comes with exceptional performance in calm and flat waters.

Size and Weight

The Perception Pescador 13 Tandem is in the group of shorter tandem kayaks with dimensions of 13′ (396 cm) length, 34″ (86 cm) width and a deck profile of 15″ (38 cm). The kayak weighs 69 lbs (31 kg), making it a bit lighter and easier to handle than many of the tandem boats on the market.

Transportation and storage will require tailgate extender, landing gear, or carts because of the length. Securing the kayak during transport is also something to think about because the Pescador Tandem doesn’t come with molded or sturdy carrying handles.

Then again, its maximum load capacity of 500 lbs (227 kg) allows the paddlers to take gear and supplies without worrying if the boat can carry the load. Depending on your stature, and being careful not to load the craft with more than 80 percent of its maximum weight capacity, you can take your child and dog on a cruise with you.

Materials

Perception makes their kayaks from a proprietary High-Density Polyethylene material using the company-specific, one-piece rotational molding technology. The process involves pouring beads of polyethylene into the mold, which gets heated up and slowly rotated so that the material fills up every nook and cranny. After the mold cools down, you get a one-piece, leak-proof construction that is extremely rugged and durable.

Features

At the bow and stern, the kayak features two toggle carrying handles and two flush mount comfortable-grip handles on each side of the cockpit.

In terms of storage capacity, the bow offers bungee secured storage tray, while in the rear, it features decent-sized tankwell that can accommodate a cooler or larger backpack. Besides, in front of each seat, the manufacturer integrated 6″ dry storage hatches with neoprene covers. If you don’t want to lose the items inside the hull, we advise adding cat bags into the deck plates.
The Pescador 13 includes two cup holders on each side of the front seat and another in front of the rear seat.

The kayak doesn’t come with the standard rod tie-downs, but it includes a molded indentation behind the bow storage tray where you can rest your paddle. This isn’t a problem in such a spacious deck anyway.

The Pescador 13 deck comes with ten scupper holes for draining the water, but can also let some inside the kayak if you load it to capacity. Users recommend plugging the scupper holes under the seat if you’re paddling solo.

The molded seat bases are wide enough to fit bigger paddlers, while the built-in adjustable seat backs are padded and offer ergonomic back support. Even so, if you plan on going on full-day trips, taking extra cushions and lumbar support pads can make a big difference.
The molded Kids Seat in the middle doesn’t come with padding. Perception added some extra eyelets in this area in case the paddlers wished to pad this seat as well.

The Perception Pescador 13 Tandem features three sets of molded footrests. The front passenger seat allows better leg comfort for taller individuals by offering five molded footwells, while the solo and rear seating configuration includes four grooves for accommodating your feet.

Performance

The Perception Pescador 13 Tandem provides extreme stability with its 34″ beam and relatively shorter length.
Boat’s incredible balance allows the paddlers to enjoy better maneuverability than longer tandem kayaks. The hull design allows quick turning and responsiveness, especially in calm waters such as sheltered lakes, ponds, and bays.

The kayak isn’t susceptible to moderate winds or light surf, but it doesn’t handle choppy open lakes too well. When cruising appropriate water types, the Pescador 13 is easy to paddle and steer and offers great fun with its unexpected agility for a tandem kayak.

Unlike the Perception Rambler Tandem, the Pescador 13 Tandem tracks exceptionally well and maintains the line even after ceasing with paddling. This means that even when fully loaded with gear and carrying three passengers, one paddler can handle the drive and steering while the others enjoy the scenery.

When we think about speed, tandem kayaks with 34″ beams do not immediately come to mind. We cannot say that the Pescador 13 is a fast kayak, of course. Still, considering the excellent tracking and responsiveness of the boat, when two people paddle in a synchronized manner, the kayak picks up a good pace and offers lots of fun on the water.

Warranty

Perception kayaks are warranted against material or manufacturing defects in the hull and deck for 5 years from the date of the original purchase of the kayak. Parts, accessories, and outfitting are warranted for one year.
