Description
Size and Weight
The length of 10 ft (305 cm) and width of 28 in. (71 cm) allow most people to comfortably settle in the vessel. The 14 in (36 cm) height also contributes to this comfort while ensuring adequate storage space is provided.
Like Pelican’s other thermoformed kayaks, Pelican Spirit 100 is very light. It weighs only 36 lb (16.3 kg), so you won’t have any problems transporting and storing this kayak.
Capacity
With the maximum capacity of 275 lb (125 kg), Pelican Spirit was not really designed to be packed full of gear. However, most average-sized adults will feel totally comfortable and safe in this boat. Take along a small dry bag with lunch and spare clothes and you’ll be fine.
Features
Just like the Argo 100X, Pelican Spirit has a bow hatch. The hatch cover is kept in place by a bungee cord and is not waterproof, so any stuff that needs to stay dry should be in a dry bag.
In front of the cockpit, there is a molded dash with a couple of small open compartments and a bottle holder. There is also an indentation for a paddle shaft which is a tiny but convenient feature as it can keep your paddle from rolling off the boat.
The cockpit rim does not have soft knee pads like on the similarly priced Pelican Magna 100 and some other models. Knee pads add a lot of comfort, especially on longer trips.
Behind the seat, there is a tank well equipped with a bungee cord. It is large enough for a medium size dry bag.
For the seat, Pelican went with their basic Ergobase seat pad and the adjustable Ergoform backrest. The seat pad is pretty thin and does not offer a lot of comfort on longer trips. The Argo 100X model has a better Ergoform seat pad, which is ventilated and offers more cushioning.
Performance
Pelican kayaks are known for good primary stability which makes them beginner-friendly. The Spirit 100 is no different. Its twin-arched multi-chine hull ensures that you will feel safe as long as you stay in calm, sheltered waters.
The Spirit 100 tracks pretty well for its length and is also easy to maneuver. The speed it offers is sufficient for relaxed recreational trips it was designed for. If you plan to cover large distances, you need a longer, faster kayak.

Jeff –
Spirit 100 is a good value for first-time kayakers. Stable, light, with sufficient storage space for basic short trip gear and provisions, the two that I own are able to fit simultaneously into my 4-door soft-top 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the back seat down and the rear window panel unzipped and removed. I didn’t need to buy racks for transporting them. And loading them is a snap, even without a helper.
I’m 6’, 170lbs, and can stretch out my legs in the Spirit 100 with no trouble. For me, the stock seat is fine, but I can understand how some people might want a bit more cushion. My dad is 88 and weighs around 180. He thoroughly enjoyed our recent two mile paddle, feeling comfortable throughout the entire trip and experiencing no soreness or cramps once back on dry land.
If you’re a budget-conscious recreational outdoorsy type who doesn’t need all the pricey bells and whistles, a Spirit 100 might well be the plastic yacht you’re looking for.
