Description
Size and Weight
Vibe Maverick 120 Hybrid is 12 ft (366 cm) long and 33.5″ (85 cm) wide. Its low profile makes the Maverick easily stackable (imagine four of those in a truck bed at once!), which is great for going out with friends or family.
The Maverick weighs 72 lbs (32.7 kg), so it is totally manageable. Five sturdy plastic handles (one on each of the four sides plus one in the center), together with the low profile/stackability, make it an easy kayak to transport and store.
The kayak’s maximum capacity is 475 lbs (215.5 kg), which makes it suitable even for bigger paddlers or those with a lot of gear.
Materials
Vibe Maverick 120 is made from high-density polyethylene. It is a single-piece construction made by rotational molding.
An interesting feature of the Maverick is that the hull is filled with sink-proof, pressure-injected foam. It does make the kayak heavier, but you also get a sturdy, no-flex deck and maximum safety. There’s no way you can sink this boat, even if you manage to make a hole in it.
Features
Vibe Maverick is essentially a blank slate that you can customize to your liking. That said, it does include some useful features for recreational paddling and fishing.
On the bow, there is a soft-touch plastic handle. Vibe upgraded all handles to make them super heavy-duty.
Next, there’s a small flat storage area secured with a bungee cord. It’s a great place to stow a dry bag or a rain jacket.
Further back, you’ll see three gear tracks, one across the deck and two along the sides. You can use those to mount rod holders, a camera, a GPS, a phone, even a cup holder.
In the middle of the deck, the Maverick has an 8-inch quarter-turn hatch that comes with a storage bin inside. Super-handy for small items that you need at hand. Just note that hatches like that always get water inside, so put your stuff inside a small dry bag if you want it to stay dry.
Moving back, there are the side handles and another handle right in the middle, which is a great feature we haven’t seen on any other kayak. The side handles come with bungee-based paddle holders on each side.
Next, there is a set of D-rings for mounting your seat. Vibe Maverick 120 comes with a choice of two seats: a higher, fixed-position Larry Chair or a lower, adjustable Hero Seat. But the great thing is that you can use any chair that fits or even a cooler. Some great flexibility here.
Finally, there’s a pretty large storage area on the stern, also with a bungee tie-down. There are two more gear tracks running along the sides.
The whole deck is covered with non-slip paddling to improve traction and dampen any noises.
Performance
Vibe Maverick 120 is a great overall performer. It is a very stable kayak that’s (obviously) made for standing. It tracks surprisingly well for a boat with a flat hull and no rudder. At the same time, if you need it to turn on a dime, it can do that as well.
The Maverick is also great in windy conditions. It does not get pushed around thanks to its super-low profile.
