PROS
  • Stable and easy to paddle
  • Lightweight and quick to inflate
  • High-pressure design for responsiveness
CONS
  • Feels sluggish
  • Limited tracking ability

Size, weight, capacity

The AirVolution 1 is 13 ft. (396 cm) long and 33 in. (83 cm) wide. These dimensions give the boat a good balance of speed and efficiency, as well as stability and control.

Weighing in at 39 lbs. (17.7 kg), the AirVolution 1 is easy enough to transport around and is light compared to other high-pressure inflatable kayaks.

The upper weight range for this kayak is 300 lbs. (136 kg). Most adults will comfortably fit this kayak with room for their day kit.

Features

At first glance, the AirVolution doesn’t appear to be your most feature-laden kayak. In fact, it looks a lot like any other boat might. That said, it’s got a few tricks hidden up its sleeves that give it an edge.

First, it’s the drop stitch design. This system, which allows you to inflate your kayak to much higher than usual pressure, gives the boat a rigidity and responsiveness usually lacking from inflatables. This boat handles more like a plastic recreational kayak than an inflatable lilo.

The internal seating has a high-backed design, for all-day comfort. This seat is supportive and fully adjustable, so you can easily get a snug fit. An inflatable rim around the cockpit prevents waves from crashing in over your seat, so you get a drier ride.

A removable tracking fin increases the tracking capabilities of the AirVolution 1. An internal, adjustable foot brace lets you transfer power more efficiently and remain upright throughout the day.

Top deck bungee and D-rings are in place on the top deck, so you can keep essential items close at hand. Internal storage is available below the deck for small items.

Performance

This kayak is a highly portable alternative to a hard-shelled boat. The lightweight design is durable enough to withstand launching and landing and doesn’t succumb to wear and tear quickly. It’s easy to inflate and quick to get on the water.

As a recreational boat, this is stable and really easy to paddle. The fin at the back of the kayak helps keep beginners in a straight line and helps the boat track in light wind. In spite of this fin, this isn’t a boat designed for windy conditions. The lightweight design gets blown around easily.

The boat is comfortable enough, though if you’re headed out on a long day you may want to stop periodically to stretch your legs and regain some feeling in your butt. This is easy, thanks to the open cockpit design. Climbing in and out of this boat is far easier than those with closed cockpits, which can feel snug.

This isn’t the fastest boat on the market and can feel sluggish compared to similar models. That said, it’s not really designed to break any records. It’s far more suited to cruising leisurely around on a calm lake than setting record speeds on a long journey.
