Size and Weight

Pelican Clipper 100X shares the hull size and shape with many other models. It is 10 ft (305 cm) long and 28 in. (71 cm) wide with a deck height of 14 in. (36 cm). At only 38 lb (17.2 kg), it is very easy to carry to and from the water, transport and store.

Capacity

The Clipper can carry up to 275 lb (125 kg). However, due to limited storage space, even smaller paddlers won’t be able to pack a lot of gear. If you need more storage room, look at models with a rear tank well, such as the Pelican Argo 100X.

Features

Starting at the bow, there is a simple bungee-based carrying handle. Next, there is a bungee on the front deck for items you need at hand while on the water, such as a lunch bag or a rain jacket.

Further back, you’ll see a simple molded cockpit table which only has one compartment for small items. Some other models have a bottle holder here, which we think is a better design.

Unlike Argo 100X and some other models, the Clipper 100X does not have an indentation for a paddle shaft on the cockpit rim. This might seem insignificant but it does keep your paddle from rolling off the boat.

Another thing that’s missing is the soft knee pads (Magna 100 has them, by the way). These add a lot of comfort, especially on longer trips.

The footrests are molded, not adjustable, which is typical for entry-level kayaks. Adjustable footrests are more comfortable but are only available on more expensive models such as the Argo 100XP.

For the seat, Pelican went with their basic Ergobase seat pad and the adjustable Ergoform backrest. The seat pad is pretty thin and does not offer a lot of comfort on longer trips. The Magna 100 model has a better Ergoform seat pad, which is ventilated and offers more cushioning.

Behind the seat, there is a stern hatch. The hatch cover is held in place with a bungee cord and is not waterproof. Make sure that any stuff that needs to stay dry goes into a dry bag.

Performance

The Clipper 100X features Pelican’s signature twin-arched multi-chine hull design. Made with beginners in mind, it offers good primary stability, allowing anyone to feel safe on calm waters. This hull also provides decent tracking and speed, which is all you need on relaxed recreational trips.
