Description

Recreational paddlers appreciate Pelican’s Argo 100XP for its stability and safety. This sit-inside offers plenty of comfort and room to bring all the gear you need to experience a rejuvenating trip in nature.

Size and Weight

Pelican Argo 100XP is 10 ft (305 cm) long and 29 in (74 cm) wide. With a deck height of 14 in (35.6 cm) and weight of 41 lbs (18.6 kg), carrying, transporting, and storing this small boat is a cinch.

With a load capacity of 300 lbs (136 kg), this sit-inside kayak keeps you safely dry on the water while carrying plenty of gear and accessories required for a whole day of fun. To leverage your kayak’s abilities to the max, try not to exceed 80 percent of its weight limit.

Materials

Like all of the premium line of Pelican models, Athena 100XP is made of RAM-X Premium material. Using thermoforming technology, RAM-X is a three-layer sheet of high-density polyethylene with an advanced resin in the top layer imparting a glossy finish and providing significantly more rigidity than standard polyethylene. A sheet of RAM-X is heated up and stretched over a mold using vacuum. Two parts of the hull are then melted together, creating a strong bond.

Don’t be afraid that your kayak will leak or come apart at the seams. The seams are the strongest part of the hull!

Features

Pelican Argo 100XP isn’t a boat that has fancy features, but what it excels in, are comfort and storage.

Starting from the front, the Argo 100XP comes with an ergonomic carrying handle.
The bow features a storage hatch closed with a quick-lock cover that keeps your things protected from the elements. Although, it wouldn’t hurt to place your sensitive items into dry bags.

The roomy cockpit in dimensions (LxW): 47 in x 25 in (119 x 63.5 cm) easily accommodates paddlers of all sizes, making entry and exit stress-free. Adjustable footrests with multiple lock-down positions also add to this function.
Moreover, as part of the cockpit, Pelican integrated a molded tray with two compartments for stowing small items and central slot with a bungee to hold your smartphone into position for taking videos or pictures.

ERGOFLEX G2 Seating System™ features a padded backrest that provides decent support, which you can further adjust in angle and height. The cushioned seat base includes a molded bottle holder for easy reach. If spending a whole day paddling is on your agenda, don’t forget to bring an extra pad for the seating. The padded knee pads will add additional support for your legs and prevent bruising from heavy paddling.

Behind the cockpit, a 4 in (10.2 cm) angled deck plate with a storage bag is a great place to keep your lunch, sunblock, or keys.

In the rear, standard-sized tankwell with by two mesh covers hold your gear in place. You can place a cooler or a waterproof bag with the rest of the accessories you may need on your adventure.

When it comes to safety features, Pelican Argo 100XP also comes with foam blocks inside the cockpit sidewalls. They improve the buoyancy of the kayak.

Performance

Performance-wise, the Argo 100XP is primarily an extremely stable kayak. Its primary stability gives confidence to both new and experienced paddlers who want to explore new waterways.

The ability to speed is satisfactory for a short kayak. As long as you paddle, you can pick up a decent pace at the kayak’s excellent tracking ability, but when you reduce the propulsion, it quickly halts.

The good thing about this kayak is that it has a shallow drift. Such buoyancy helps with the steering, making it more responsive and highly maneuverable in tights or fast-moving sections of a river or stream. However, choppy water with strong currents isn’t the type of waterway for the Pelican Argo 100XP.

If you want to experience faster and sportier ride, perhaps you should look for longer kayaks such as the Pelican Argo 120XP.

Warranty

Pelican Rise 100 NXT comes with a limited lifetime warranty for the hull and a 1-year limited warranty for pre-installed accessories. For more information about Pelican’s warranty terms, click here.
