Designed to have plenty of space to fit two people comfortably and still ride high, the Ventura 13.5 Tandem is 13’6” (411cm) long and 34” (86cm) wide. This makes it quick and very stable on the water.

Unsurprisingly, a robust, recreational boat of these proportions is pretty heavy. At 80lbs (33.6kg) you’ll be glad there are two of you to carry this boat from the car to the lake.

Maximum capacity for this kayak is 475lbs (215kg), plenty of space for two adults and some gear for a day out.

Features

The Ventura 13.5 Tandem is a recreational boat and is designed focusing on robust functionality, rather than comfort and control. The outfitting is basic but comfortable enough, a padded seat and a high, supportive backrest keep you in a positive position while moulded footwells give you a variety of options whether you want to be engaged and powering the boat or in a more relaxed position.

The rear seat can be moved forward to an alternative position for smaller paddlers who still want to engage the footrests.

Scupper holes in the rear, the middle and at the bow will drain out any water you take on in rough conditions.

There are two small hatches, sealed with watertight covers, which allow you to keep your kit dry on the water. Behind the stern paddler is a storage well which is perfect for buckets and backs and these can be secured with the bungees that cross the deck.

Moulded grab handles at the bow and stern, as well as side carrying handles in the middle of the boat, make carrying this heavy kayak easy enough, although again these focus on function rather than comfort and you won’t want to be hauling it too far.

Performance

The Ventura 13.5 Tandem is designed to be a dry and stable ride, and with so much bow rocker you can paddle over crashing ocean surf and in windy conditions on open water without getting too wet. This rocker also allows the boat to remain maneuverable for paddling down gentle rivers and surfing small waves.
Being so wide, this can be a very relaxed recreational boat, perfect for chilling out on a lake in the sunshine with a cooler of drinks in the back. Equally, the Ventura is ideal for covering longer distances. An elongated keel line and pronounced stern keel makes it one of the most efficient recreational sit-on-top kayaks when it comes to tracking and carrying speed.
