Size, weight, capacity
A length of 10’2” (312cm) might seem excessively long for a surf kayak, but the rocker profile limits the waterline of the boat and allows you a good level of comfort without limiting the boat’s carving ability. At 26.5” (67cm) wide, this is definitely a boat aimed at the experienced kayaker.
The Kaos weighs 43lbs (19.5kg), light for a sit-on-top, but robust compared to most surf kayaks, you should have no real issues moving this boat around and even loading it single handedly.
A maximum capacity of 250lbs (114kg) makes the Kaos an accessible boat for surf kayakers of all shapes and sizes.
A key feature of this sit-on kayak is the hull shape. As Dagger say, the Kaos is a crossover between a sit-on-top kayak and a surfboard and this is easy to see when you look at the profile of the boat. With a long planing section of hull and early rising rocker profile, the Kaos is designed to carry speed effortlessly down the face of a wave, without catching and dumping you in the water. At the rear of the kayak is the removable tri-fin system, which gives you extra control as you carve around the waves.
The seating is basic and designed to maximise efficiency, rather than comfort. The moulded plastic seat couples with a backband and thigh braces to give you optimal control and moulded foot wells, rather than adjustable braces, mean you can alter your position instantly while on the water.
Moulded scupper drains, complete with bung, allow you to relieve the boat of any water you take on. On the rear of the boat is a small day hatch for keys or small items you want to keep safe and dry and padded grab handles are fitted front and rear.
The huge amounts of bow rocker are instantly a hit when you paddle out into the surf. This kayak effortlessly cruises over breaking waves which will stall out shorter surfers as you head out the back to catch the best waves.
Whether you’re just starting out surfing or are a seasoned pro, this boat will keep you feeling secure and stable on all sizes of waves. It carves extremely well and the thigh braces give you plenty of control to cruise around with ease. The hull carries speed really well and the planing section toward the rear accelerates down the face of the wave with just a few short paddle strokes. This acceleration helps you catch as many waves as you want over the course of the day.
In short, if you want to go and have fun just off the coast and catch some waves, the Dagger Kaos 10.2 is the boat for you!
