Size and Weight
Pelican Fazer 100 is 10 ft (305 cm) long and 28 in. (71 cm) wide. The deck height is 14 in. (36 cm). The kayak weighs only 38 lb (17 kg). Its lightweight construction, made possible by Pelican’s RAM-XTM multi-layered material, ensures that you can effortlessly carry the vessel to and from the water, as well put it on top of your car or truck.
Despite its relatively compact size, the Fazer 100 can carry a maximum load of 275 lb (125 kg). For most average-sized people, this capacity should be just enough, provided you go light on gear.
Let’s look at Fazer 100’s features, bow to stern. First, there is a simple bungee-based carrying handle. It’s a simple design used in many entry-level kayaks. Moving back, you’ll find a decent storage area that is equipped with a bungee cord. This spot is great for a rain jacket, a lunch bag, or other gear you need at hand while on the water.
At the front of the cockpit, there is a cockpit table that keeps your small items within reach.
The cockpit area is where Pelican’s attention to detail is noticeable. Soft knee pads have been included to provide convenience. They also slide fore and aft to help you find the optimal position. Pelican’s ERGOFORM™ seat features an adjustable padded backrest and a bottle holder between the paddler’s legs.
Unfortunately, the molded footrests are not adjustable, so it may be tricky to find the best leg position, especially for longer trips.
Behind the seat, there is a storage hatch which also has a bungee cord on top of the hatch cover. It functions as a secondary storage space and will fit most of your belongings.
Emptying your kayak is a hassle-free task thanks to the well-designed drain plug. Finally, another carry handle at the stern makes it easy to carry the kayak around with some help from a friend.
The Fazer 100 features a twin-arched, multi-chine hull design. This provides the exceptional stability mentioned earlier and enables better tracking compared to some similarly priced products. The stability is why Pelican boats are among the best entry-level recreational kayaks.
The kayak’s performance is impressive for the price. Some paddlers even managed to reach speeds of 6 mph (9,66 km/h) with a fully loaded kayak. It also tracks decently for such a short boat.
Keep in mind, however, that kayaks like that are designed for calm, small bodies of water. Taking it into the open sea or whitewater conditions is just too dangerous.
