The Trident 13 Angler is the mid-range option in the Trident Angler range. At 13 ft. 6 in. (4.1 m) long, this kayak has a long enough waterline to carry speed over the water and a keel line which tracks, without limiting its ability to negotiate the twists and turns.

In kayak fishing, stability is paramount. With that in mind, the Trident 13 Angler has a beam of 29 in. (73.7 cm). While not the widest kayak on the market, this balances well with the waterline to give you a stable and sporty ride.

Mid range size can often mean mid range, limited capacity. Not so with the Trident 13 Angler, though, which can take up to 355 lbs. (161 kg). This is enough space for your average, even larger paddler, and all the fishing equipment you need.

As with most fishing kayaks, the Trident 13 Angler isn’t light. This is to be expected of a kayak with so many features, though. At 79 lbs. (35.8 kg), though, it’s not the heaviest kayak on the market either, and can comfortably be moved and loaded by two adults.

Features

One of the most pressing issues for any kayaker is how long they can spend on the water without needing a break. The ACS2 seat system is comfortable, padded and well ventilated, with a back system which is fully adjustable to keep you upright and supported. In short, you can spend all day on the water without even thinking about it.

Keeping you in this seat is the Support Track foot system. Quick and easy to adjust, the foot pegs can be moved out of the way to maximise freedom as you fish, then returned to position as you paddle to your next spot.

The Trident 13 Angler has a click seal storage hatch at the bow with a battery storage bag. At the rear of the boat is a large tank well, secured with bungee and compatible with a cooler. In the center is the fully redesigned mod-pod II, which gives you storage for smaller items within easy reach of your seat.

Behind the seat are two flush mounted rod holders, while towards the bow is an accessory plate with a transducer compatible scupper. To fully customize your ride, the Trident 13 Angler has gunnel accessory tracks for mounting your tech, rod holders, or cameras. Paddle holders allow you to go hands free on the water and come with rod rests for versatility.

Grab handles at the bow and stern, as well as the sides, complete this well thought out set up.

Performance

The Trident 13 Angler is a well thought out, versatile fishing sit-on-top kayak. The longer waterline gives it a good top speed and it covers the water almost effortlessly. Even in the surf and breaking waves, this boat isn’t troubled. It smashes through waves and the keel keeps it tracking into the wind without issue.

Stability-wise, this kayak is great. For a relatively narrow ride, it’s really stable and is more than capable as a fishing platform. The storage is well thought out and the Mod Pod II gives you extra storage for smaller items within arm’s reach.

The seat is comfortable and supportive, but can’t quite offer the same comfort as the newer, frame-style seats. The sitting position is quite low, so the Trident 13 Angler can be quite a wet ride, especially in rougher conditions.
