Liquidlogic designed the Stinger with just one goal in mind; win the Green Race. The Stinger is fast and responsive, more than a match for the toughest white water in the world. Whether you’re breaking course records or just want to rip down creeks, the Stinger is an addictive ride.
- Really fast and maneuverable boat.
- Aggressive design for those who love to charge.
- Comfortable and versatile design.
- A lot of boat if you’re used to models closer to the 9’ mark.
- Can only enter in races without length classification.
Size, weight, capacity
Not all races in the world require a boat of 9’ or less and with that in mind, Liquidlogic made the Stinger an enormous 12’5” (379cm) long and just 24.25” (62cm) wide.
Optimal paddler weight for this boat ranges from 120 – 300lbs (77 – 136kg).
This much boat doesn’t come light, at 55lbs (25kg), yet it’s surprisingly easy to carry once you have it on your shoulder.
The Stinger’s hull design balances an enormously long water line with a playful nature to bring you a boat which can not only win the hardest races, but spin on eddy lines and hit the tightest eddies.
To enhance the speed, Liquidlogic extended the stern on this model and gave it a slalom style ‘kick’. This not only makes the boat accelerate quickly and carry speed, but it planes out of holes and drops while maintaining speed.
The longer stern on the newest model also means that the bow is slightly shorter, preventing the boat from pitoning in drops and giving the paddler more control over lifting the bow over features. The aggressive rocker profile helps here too!
In order to move a boat this long around the narrowest creeks, you need to have a high level of connection. Few if any outfitting systems are better than the Badass outfitting, easily the most comfortable and arguably the most connective system on the market. Shorter paddlers can request a larger bulkhead footplate on purchase, which is a safer and more connective option for those with an inseam less than 32”.
Security grab handles and a drain bung complete the white water features on the Stinger.
The records speak for themselves, the Stinger has smashed course times on all sorts of river, including the Green. As well as being absurdly fast, the stinger is a well balanced and versatile kayak which can spin on eddy lines and make tight turns on narrow creeks and is at home on steep drops and narrow chutes.
While it is an all round kayak, it’s not necessarily the best learning platform. Beginners are likely to find themselves out of control at high speed and this boat performs best when it’s being driven expertly around the river.
If you like going fast and flying over holes and skipping away from drops, this boat is for you! Just remember you can only win events that don’t stipulate a 9’ limit!
