Stand up paddle boards have become quite popular in recent years. Crescent Kayaks has jumped out ahead of the competition with it’s SUP+ model. The SUP+ functions in some ways like a paddle board, but has many of the capabilities of a kayak, which makes it a fun ride for lakes, bays, rivers and just about anywhere else. Crescent hired some of the brightest minds in the kayak and paddle board industry when designing this vessel and it certainly shows.
Description
Size and Weight
With an overall length of 11’10” (360.6 cm), and a width of 33” (83.8 cm), the SUP+ is a highly stable ride. Weighing in at 58 lbs (26.3 kg), it can be easily cartopped or carried to the shoreline by most users. While it is heavier than most paddle boards on the market, the extra weight translates directly to added stability on the water.
Capacity
As with most paddle boards, the overall capacity is much less than a typical kayak. The SUP+ offers a capacity of 275 lbs (124.7 kg), which makes it stable enough for users weighing up to 225 lbs. Just like most kayaks, it is not recommended to load the SUP+ with more than 80 percent of its full capacity.
Features
The SUP+ combines the overall stability of a paddling board with the performance capabilities of a premium kayak to create one of the most unique watercrafts on the market. Thanks to its catamaran-style hull, the SUP+ has more than enough stability to allow users to fish comfortably from its deck.
The SUP+ features a large molded skeg instead of a fin, which gives this vessel excellent tracking and agility compared to most paddleboards.
The bungee tie-down storage areas on the bow and stern make it easy to store tackle boxes and other gear items on the SUP+ and access them on the water. It’s recommended to bring some type of dry bag as the SUP+ does not offer any kind of dry storage.
The SUP+ features a wood-colored deck mat that is comfortable for users to stand on while barefoot, similar to other paddleboards. The deck is spacious and allows users plenty of room to shift their weight around when paddling or fishing.
Unlike most other paddleboard style crafts, the SUP+ features a removable seat that allows users to sit comfortably. This completely changes the dynamic of the SUP+ from a typical paddleboard to a hybrid kayak.
The seat is much like other Crescent models. It is made from powder-coated marine aluminum and offers plenty of padding and lumbar support for added comfort.
The SUP+ is fitted with two YakAttack gear mount tracks, one on either side, and allows users to fit rod holders, or other items to the board. Anglers also have the capability to mount a Power Pole or even a trolling motor to the stern to fully customize their SUP+.
Performance
The SUP+ functions much like a quality kayak on the water instead of having some of the detrimental characteristics of a paddleboard. Users report that the hull allows the SUP+ to have excellent tracking compared to most paddleboards which can literally be blown around with the wind. Anglers will also appreciate the ability to sit and paddle at times, which can increase speed. The stability is reported to be excellent thanks to Crescent’s unique hull design.
