The Ozark Trail 10 Person 3 Room Tent is a large 3-season tent featuring three separate rooms for family camping.
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent, with Maximum Weather Protection, is a 13’ x 9’ Dome style tent that’s evenly partitioned with a screened stargazing porch and a separate living area with a nylon ceiling.
There’s a lot to like in this entry level tent that’s a combination of a Yurt style and a “A” frame style tent. A meshed Front Room allows for great ventilation and star gazing. A floor to ceiling room separator allows for privacy between rooms.
Comfort and Space
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent, with Maximum Weather Protection, measures 9’ x 13’ (274 x 396 cm) equating to 117 square feet (10.9sqm) of floor space.
Room divider
The front room and rear rooms are evenly divided via a sewn-in room divider. If you choose, the living space may be separated into two equally sized rooms, with individual floor spaces of approximately 9’ x 6.5’ (274 x 198 cm), equating to 58.5 square feet (5.4 sqm) per room.
Front Room
The front room has a mesh ceiling and may be used as a mud room, screened porch, star gazing room, or a sleeping area.
Rear room
The Rear room has a solid fabric ceiling and is used as a primary sleeping area.
Five adults can fit comfortably into the Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent with the room separator tied back. If the sewn-in room separator is engaged, two adults can fit comfortably into the front room and two more adults can rest in the rear room.
Head Room
With an Interior Peak Height of 6’1” (193 cm) the Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent provides ample headroom for most campers.
The tent is a dome-style tent. Dome tents have exterior support poles that cross over the tent from left to right. Dome-style tents are halfway between a heavier Yurt style tent that maximizes interior space and a smaller A-frame tent that maximizes lighter weights.
Doors and Vestibules
Doors
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent has both a front and rear door. The front and rear doors are approximately 9’ X 5’ (274 x 152 cm). Both doors may be tied back to increase airflow.
Vestibule
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent does not have a dedicated exterior vestibule, but the Front Room may be configured with furniture as a screened porch during the day and then used as a sleeping area at night. The screened porch has no-see-um mesh for the walls and ceiling.
Gear Storage
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent doesn’t have a great deal of gear storage space with four or five campers. A primary location for gear storage would be your automobile. If there are only two or three campers the screened front porch may be utilized for gear storage.
There is reasonable room for nighttime storage of smaller gear at either the head or foot of the sleeping bags.
One moveable hanging media pocket allows for easy group video viewing on a portable media player. There are two side pockets for small item storage and two water bottle storage. The E-port located on the edge of the tend allows for an easy connection to an external power source to keep your electronics charged.
There is a hanging lantern loop on each side of the tent’s ceiling.
Breathability and Ventilation
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent provides a reasonable amount of ventilation when the rainfly is removed. User reviews have mentioned that the ventilation is rather limited in the front room when the rainfly is installed.
Ventilation Features
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent Front room has noseeum mesh walls and ceiling and zippered mesh front doors.
The Rear room has two noseeum mesh windows measuring approximately 3’ x 3’ (91 x 91cm) in size.
The Front and Rear rooms each have separate entryways, measuring approximately 9’ X 5’ (274 x 152cm).
If the rainfly is installed, ventilation in the Front room is limited to the entryway. Ventilation in the Rear room is limited to the side windows and Rear door. The side windows are covered when the rainfly is deployed, so don’t expect too much ventilation through the windows when the rainfly is installed.
Weather Resistance
Wind Resistance
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent is susceptible to strong winds. Multiple user reviews mention that their tent poles snapped, splintered, or broke in heavy winds. Therefore, the tent is only suitable for fair weather.
Rain Resistance
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent provides flexibility to install the rainfly over the entire tent or to install the rain fly over the Rear room only. This allows the Front room to be used for wildlife viewing or nighttime stargazing.
Front and rear awnings provide entryway drip protection but aren’t large enough to provide gear protection.
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent and rainfly are made from Recycled Poly Taffeta with 185 vertical and horizontal polyester threads per inch.
Durability
Bathtub floor
The Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent floor is constructed from Polyethylene and is not a bathtub-style tent floor. This may lead to water seeping into the tent via the seams. We recommend the use of a tarp underneath the tent in wet weather and the use of additional seam sealer on the interior seams before the first camping trip.
Poles
There are four long hollow fiberglass poles; One Main Pole, Two Side Poles, and one Ridge Pole. Each long pole is created from multiple smaller poles that are connected with interior elastic ropes.
Ease of Use
It’s possible to set up the Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent all by yourself, but it would be less stressful on the tent materials to have a second person to help. Users report setup times run between ten and twenty minutes.
