There’s ample room in each of the exterior rooms for you to sit up straight in your bed (this is Glamping!) and dress without worrying about rubbing your clothing on the top of a potentially moist tent ceiling.

The Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers is a Cabin style tent with multiple rooms. Multi-room tents are all about privacy options and packing a lot of campers into separate sleeping spaces.

Doors and Vestibules

Three different entry or exit doors give you a lot of layout options inside the Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers. You can choose to select one doorway as a mudroom and use the other two entryways as private sleeping area entrances.

Primary Entrance

There is a single primary awning-protected entrance located at the upper-right location of the “Y” with a mud mat and a drain. The E-Port access point is located to the left of the Primary Entrance.

Secondary Entrances

There are two secondary entrances located at the upper left and the base of the “Y”. The secondary entrances do not have a protected entryway or E-Port, so the orientation of the tent during setup is critical.

Doorway sizes

Each doorway is “D” shaped and is approximately 4’ x 5’ (122 x 152 cm).

Vestibule

There is a small vestibule with an approximately 1’ (30 cm) awning overhanging the Primary Entrance. The awning provides some, but not a great deal, of gear protection from the elements. The awnings’ primary purpose is to create a rain barrier for the Primary Entrance.

Storage

There are two hanging storage pockets located in each exterior room and one large hanging storage pocket in the common area. There is a single hanging adjustable media pouch for group viewing of your favorite electronic device. There are multiple cup holders situated throughout the Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers.

Most campers tend to have far fewer people residing in the tent instead of the maximum capacity the manufacturer suggests. This maximizes the space for everyone. If this is your methodology, you’ll have lots of space for gear storage. If you managed to stuff sixteen campers into this tent, which we don’t recommend, you won’t have space for gear storage.

Breathability and Ventilation

Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent without a removable rainfly

With a removable rainfly, three windows, three doors, and a No-See-Um mesh ceiling the Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers provides a great deal of ventilation.

Given the size of the tent, it’s surprising to not find any low-level ventilation ports. This may equate to moisture build-up inside the tent during sunny high humidity days or rainy weather.

Ventilation Features

There are three U-shaped Poly Mesh no-see-um mesh windows located in the tents’ common area. Each window is approximately 2’6” x 4’ (76 x 122 cm) and has an interior zippable flap to allow cross ventilation through the tent.

Each Exterior doorway contains a no-see-um mesh window that’s approximately 3’6” x 4’ (107 x 122 cm) in size. Each doorway window may be zippered open, or the entire doorway may be tied back, to allow cross ventilation.

Weather Resistance

The Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers is a large summertime Glamping tent that’s targeted toward fair weather camping. This isn’t the tent to take out into the wilderness during a heavy downpour.

Wind resistance

As a cabin tent the Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers has a tall footprint and multiple rooms to maximize camper comfort. A tall vertical footprint, and multiple rooms, equate to a potentially unpleasant situation if the tent is caught in a heavy windstorm.

If you’re going to camp in windy conditions, we recommend trying to situate the tent between natural windbreaks, such as large rocks or trees. Do look “up” for potential widowmakers before you claim your tent site.

Rain resistance

The Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers is manufactured from a 185 thread count water-resistant recycled polyester. The moisture ratings are 600mm for Hydrostatic Head water resistance, which we think is a bit light. You’ll want to treat the main tent body with a water repellant before you head out for your Glamping adventure.

The main body tent seams aren’t taped, so we also recommend that you seal them too.

Rainfly

The removable rainfly seams were taped for water resistance at the factory. The rainfly covers the tent ceiling but offers minimal drip protection for the windows.

Durability

The Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers has quite a few user reviews indicating that the tent poles snapped, shattered, or frayed. If the durability and robustness of a tent are the single most important features to you, this tent may not be the best choice for you.

Tent Floor

The seams are double sewn on the Polyethylene floor material transition seams. We’d recommend an additional layer of protection between the tent and the ground.

Poles

The Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers has twenty poles that are both fiberglass and steel. The poles are color-coded and pre-connected with wire cords.

Ease of Use

Bringing along a friend to help with the tent setup is a very good idea. The Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers is an external frame tent and it has a monster footprint. We recommend a tent site with an open area that’s at least 30’ x 30’ (9.1 m x 9.1 m). We recommend that you do a little camping site exploration before you make a site reservation.

User reviews indicate that it takes 15 minutes to 90 minutes for the initial setup. We strongly recommend you set it up for the first time in a park or your backyard.

How to Set up the Ozark Trail 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers

  • Place the tent on the ground and stretch it out. Orient the tent entrance to your preference.
  • Stake the tent stake loops down at the six corners of the tent
  • Extend the pre-connected poles.
  • The three poles of equal length are the main roof poles. Insert them through the blue pole sleeves at the center of the top of the tent.
  • Gently flex the fiberglass poles and insert them into the eaves joints
  • Thread the eave poles through the grey sleeves on the edge of the tent
  • Insert the eave poles into all six of the eave joints
  • Insert the end of one of the steel poles into the opening at the eave plastic connection hub and connect, place the other end of the pole into the corresponding pin at the base of the tent. Repeat the process on the remaining five steel poles.
  • Locate the blue poles sleeves and insert the side room poles through them.
  • Flex the poles into an arch and connect them at the base of the tent. Click the plastic hooks onto the frame.
  • Insert the front entry fiberglass poles through the grey sleeve
  • Slide the Factory bent steel entry upright poles onto the front entry point at the base of the entryway. Repeat on the other side of the tent.
  • Drape the rainfly over the primary tent entrance and then extend it over the entire tent ceiling. The grey edge of the rainfly should be aligned with the grey edge of the Primary Entrance doorway.
  • Connect the rainfly to the tent with the pre-attached Velcro straps. The rainfly has preattached Guy lines that should be extended and staked into the ground.

Packed Size and Weight

The Ozark Trail Base Camp 14-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers weighs 46.7 lbs (21.2 kg). A tent of this weight is designed for car camping. It’s something to consider if you’re booking a “hike in only” campsite online.

The Ozark Trail Base Camp 16-Person Cabin Tent with 2 Removable Room Dividers packed size is 28.5” x 14” x 14”. A tent of this size requires a dedicated location in your storage scheme.
