Comfort and Space

The Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent is an excellent option for smaller families or a couple of friends who want to enjoy camping together. It sleeps up to 6 people and has enough room to fit two queen air mattresses. The tent is great for taller campers to stand up in, making it more comfortable to move around.

The Sundome offers a floorplan of 10’x10′ (3.05 m x 3.05 m), which works out to be 100 square feet (9.29 sq m). This tent generally has enough room to sleep 6 adults on sleeping pads.

While it is possible to sleep up to 6 people in this tent, it might not be big enough to also store gear inside the tent. The tent is best used with a maximum of 4 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children plus your gear.

Head/Shoulder Room

The Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent has a peak height of 72 inches (182.88 cm), making this dome tent great for taller campers to stand up and move around. Everyone will have plenty of shoulder room to sit up at night, too.

The walls are sloped so that the tent will deflect wind and rain.

The dome shape of the tent also makes it easier to set up and take down. This is an excellent tent for car camping or backpacking.

Rooms/Vestibules

The Sundome tent is reliable and affordable. The tent features a rainfly that covers the majority of the tent. This is great for protecting against wind and rain. The door mat right outside the tent is ideal for taking off shoes and boots to help ensure your tent stays clean from debris outside.

The Sundome does not have any vestibules. The rainfly creates two awnings for the tent. One is right above the door while the other is over the window. The awning helps add a bit of extra shelter when entering the tent.

Storage

The Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent features two mesh pockets on the sides of the tent, perfect for storing small items or keeping track of your belongings. Additionally, the Sundome tent offers a lighting loop on the roof of the tent, allowing you to hang a lantern or flashlight from the ceiling easily.

The tent also features an e-port, making it easy to bring electrical devices inside the tent and keep them powered up while camping.

Weather Resistance

WeatherTec system of the Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent

The Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent is excellent for camping in mild weather conditions. It can withstand winds up to 35 MPH, and the rainfly protects from the rain. The tent is made from Dual-Layer poly guard 2x fabric, which is highly durable.

The tent’s floor is tub-like, making it resistant to water damage. The tent’s corners are welded, and the seams are inverted to prevent water from leaking.

In addition, the seams on the rainfly and the tent body are taped to prevent further leaks.

Overall, the Sundome Tent is a well-constructed tent that will provide comfortable shelter in moderate weather conditions.

Durability

The materials used for the Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent can last a very long time. The rainfly is made from 600 mm waterproof polyester, and the floor is made from a polyethylene ground sheet.

The 600 mm hydrostatic head is a waterproof rating that measures the amount of water pressure a fabric can withstand before it leaks. The higher the hydrostatic head, the more waterproof the fabric. The polyethylene groundsheet is a type of plastic that is often used as a barrier between the tent floor and the ground. It is lightweight and durable, making it an ideal choice for camping and backpacking.

The poles are made from fiberglass, which makes them perfect for a budget tent. For budget-minded campers, fiberglass is a great choice. Fiberglass poles are solid and lightweight yet also very affordable. Fiberglass does not hold up very well in extreme weather conditions.

The tent materials are fire retardant, so you can be assured that you will be safe in an emergency.

Ease of Use

The Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent features a two-pole design that can be set up in just about 10 minutes by one person. The external frame of the tent ensures that it will stand up to mild wind, while the rainfly provides additional protection from the elements.

The Sundome Tent has 2 long poles used for the frame of the tent and 1 short pole used to set up the rainfly. The tent offers snag-free continuous sleeves for an easy setup design.

The fly also has velcro tabs that attach to the poles. The tent is made from waterproof polyester and has plastic clips that attach the tent to the poles.

Packed Size and Weight

It is easy to store and carry the Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent. The tent has a packed size of 26.2″ x 7.5″ x 7.5″ (66.5 cm x 19 cm x 19 cm) and a weight of 16.1 pounds (7.3 kg).

When choosing a tent for camping, there are many factors to consider. Size, weight, and price are all important, yet one of the most important considerations is the weather resistance of the tent. In this regard, the Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent and the Ozark Trail 6-Person Dome Outdoor Camping Tent are two of the best options on the market.

Both of these tents are designed to withstand wind and rain and feature waterproof floors and taped seams. However, the Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent has an advantage in ventilation.

The Sundome features a mesh roof panel that helps to promote air circulation, while the Ozark Trail 6-Person Dome Outdoor Camping Tent has a solid roof. This can make quite a difference on hot summer days when you need to keep cool.

Another consideration is the price. The Coleman Sundome 6-Person tent is typically more expensive than the Ozark Trail 6-Person Dome Outdoor Camping Tent. However, when you factor in the superior ventilation of the Sundome, it is worth the extra investment.
