Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent

Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent is a spacious 3-season tent that sleeps up to 8 people and is great for camping with family or friends. The tent’s unique dome design makes it quick and easy to set up, and the large windows provide excellent ventilation. The rainfly system helps keep the interior dry in wet weather, and the mesh panels keep insects out.

Comfort and Space

One of the most important things to bring when camping is a tent. And when it comes to tents, the  Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent is at the top of the list. With enough room for eight people, this tent is perfect for large families or groups of friends. Plus, it features an innovative skydome design that provides an extra measure of head and shoulder space. This makes it perfect for taller campers or those who want a little more room to move around.

Floor Space

The Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent also features ample floor space, making it easy for everyone to spread out. The interior dimensions of this 8-Person tent are 16’ (4.9 m) by 7’ (2.13 m). This works out to 112 square feet (34.14 m) of floor space, which is generally enough for 8 adults on sleeping pads.

Be aware that if you want to store all your gear inside the tent, it might not be big enough for 8 people. This tent is best used with a maximum of about 6 adults or 2 adults and up to 4 children plus your gear.

Head/Shoulder Room

The Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent is a dome tent. It is a great choice for taller campers who want to walk around at night without feeling cramped. It has an impressive height of 6 feet (182 cm) at the center which makes it easier for taller people to walk around when inside the tent.

Although the walls are primarily vertical, it is important to remember that the tent slopes, which means the sides will be shorter than the 6-foot middle. However, they should be comfortable for an average person to sit up comfortably at night.

Rooms/Vestibules

The Skydome XL tent is a single-room tent. This means that it cannot be divided into two separate areas. If you want to use the tent for your group, everyone will need to be comfortable sharing the space. This tent does not have a vestibule.

Breathability and Ventilation

The Coleman Skydome 8-person XL tent performs well in terms of breathability and ventilation.

This tent features a large mesh window in both the front and the back that provides plenty of ventilation and allows you to enjoy the natural surroundings. Additionally, the window can be zipped closed to keep out the elements.

The tent features a ground vent that allows air to circulate through the tent, keeping you cool and comfortable during hot weather conditions.

Weather Resistance

Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent WeatherTec system

This tent has a WeatherTec system, a patented feature that helps keep your tent dry and safe from the elements. This system features welded corners and inverted seams, which work together to prevent water from seeping into your tent.

The WeatherTec system also includes a rainfly designed to provide additional protection from the elements. Its taped seams help the tent be weather resistant. The rainfly connection and brow pole sleeve are color-coded to help with setup.

Coleman tents are made up to withstand winds up to 35 MPH. However, make sure to seek safety when high winds come. Tents are not an ideal place to be in bad weather.

In high winds, some tents can act like kites. A strong wind increases the risk of damage to the tent. This can include damage to the poles, the fabric, or the stitching of the tent. When selecting a tent, consider the wind speeds that are likely to occur in the area where you will be camping.

Durability

The Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent is made from nylon.

Nylon is a durable material that can last for many years if properly cared for. To prolong the life of your nylon tent, be sure to clean it regularly and store it in a dry place when it is not in use.

The poles are made from fiberglass. Fiberglass is a composite material made from strands of glass fibers. Fiberglass poles are not nearly as durable as aluminum poles. Therefore, this tent would be great for simple car camping but might not fare so well in harsher conditions.

Another material the tent is made from is mesh. Mesh provides great breathability while keeping the bugs out; however, it tears easily. Mesh is very popular in camping tents. If you want your tent to last, you need to take care of it.

Ease of Use

Thanks to its color-coded poles and clips, the Coleman Skydome 8-Person XL Tent is easy to set up and take down. It can be set up in under 10 minutes, even by a first-time camper. The tent is also lightweight and portable, making it easy to transport to campsites.

Large tents like this 8-person tent usually require 2 people to pitch the tent quickly. We recommend pitching the tent at home a few times before taking it out into the great outdoors. With a little bit of practice, you will be able to set it up in no time!
