The Coleman WeatherMaster 6-Person Tent has 99 ft² (9.2 m²) of interior tent space, and 54 ft² (5 m²) of screened living space, equating to 153 ft² (14 m²) of total usable weather protected living area. That’s the largest floor space of any of the Best Tall Camping tents that we reviewed.
Floor space is crucial when it allows us to place our personal gear items at our feet or heads when we sleep. More is definitely better! Other tent spec sheets often include the screened porch area as part of the total floor space, so it’s nice to see that Coleman didn’t include it on the Coleman WeatherMaster 6-Person Tent information sheet.
A full no-see-um mesh ceiling allows for maximum ventilation and star gazing. The Screened Porch has no-see-um mesh on the side walls and ceiling and a dirt floor. The Screened Porch is the perfect area for an outdoor vestibule or cowboy camping.
The detachable rain fly is a weather-resistant 75-denier polyester taffeta that’s combined with weather anti-wicking thread to repel water. The inner tent mesh is constructed from 68-denier.
The tent floor is a bathtub style with a 1,000-denier polyethylene floor. Protected Inverted Seams are created when the fabric pieces are stitched together and the needle holes are intentionally positioned on the inside of the tent. We appreciate a quick setup, and Coleman lists the setup time as nine minutes! Field testing indicates that many users struggle with the initial tent setup and said their time was closer to 30 minutes. Many reviewers followed up to say that the second time setup is much faster.

We like the out-of-the-box design and think it’s a good place to store dry shoes and jackets. Care should be shown for stowing wet gear in the closet. Wet gear will introduce moisture to the tent interior.

The Browning Camping Big Horn Tent is our choice as the best family tent in our roundup of Best Tall Camping tents. Sporting 150 ft² (13.9 m²) of interior floor space combined with the tallest Interior Peak Height (IPH) at 7′ 3″ (221 cm) gives us a lot of reasons to love the spaciousness of this tent.
Four side panel windows, two doorway windows, and a ceiling constructed of no-see-um mesh provide a massive amount of ventilation from every direction.
Rain getting into the tent is a quick way to stop enjoying your family camping trip. We’re very pleased with the Browning Camping Big Horn Tent’s water resistance. The Browning Camping Big Horn Tent has some of the highest water resistance ratings we’ve encountered in our Best Tall Camping tents round up.
A bathtub style floor constructed from 150D Oxford Polyester with a 2000mm coating and a rain fly constructed with 75D 185T polyester has users delighted with the rain performance. “Bulletproof” “Amazing” “Bone Dry”.
We do recommend the optional Browning Camping Big Horn Two-Room Footprint as a means to add a little bit more puncture protection from sharps rocks and roots and moisture protection for the tent floor. Frankly, we highly recommend ground covers for all tents. It just makes sense to protect your investment as much as possible.
The rain fly extends out from the doorways approximately 14″ (35 cm). The extension is enough to keep moisture from dripping into the tent but isn’t large enough to provide any kind of exterior protected vestibule. Excess gear will need to be stored in your automobile.

The pole-supported vestibule is an add-on for those seeking a weather-protected exterior gear locker and it doubles as a shaded front porch. It’s nice to have an option for gear storage other than the car.
- Shelter Mode: A Footprint to protect your tent floor or you may use the exact same footprint to set up a Shade shelter with the rain fly. In Shelter Mode, the rain fly is used as a sun shade cover by erecting the rain fly without the tent. It’s a quick and easy way to have great shelter from the sun on a hot day when you don’t want to hang out inside the tent.
- Gear lofts are in high demand when camping with a group, so you might want to add additional storage. Optional additional gear lofts. We like the idea of preconfigured optional gear storage taking the guesswork out of adding onto the tent.
Storage

There’s just something about the design of the Eureka! Copper Canyon LX, 3 Season, Camping Tent that brings a smile to our faces. Some tents are designed by campers, for campers, and that’s exactly what we have in our hands here! We’re not alone in our appreciation, the New York Times named it their best tent choice for families.
Eureka! expects the tent will last between seven and ten years when used three times per year for three to seven days per trip. Eureka! offers a 60-day trial period. That’s a lot of confidence in the tent. We love it! It’s good to see a tent manufacturer actually tell us how long our tent investment should last if we take care of it.
Pole sleeves, corner hubs, and quick clips all work together for a quick tent raising. One person can set up the tent by themselves, but it will go up much more quickly if you bring a friend along. (It’s a big tent, are you planning to camp alone?)
The Canopy, bathtub floor, and rain fly are constructed from 75D 190T polyester taffeta treated with polyurethane that equates to 1200mm of hydrostatic head water resistance.

The TETON Sports Mesa 10 Canvas Tent is a four-season, heavy-duty canvas tent that’s perfect for those seeking a higher level of durability and function than you would find on tents constructed from nylon, polyester or Dyneema at a much lower price point.
A lifetime warranty is hard to beat! Provided you don’t light your tent on fire, or intentionally feed it through a wood chipper, there’s a bit of manufacturing warranty to assist.
A canvas tent is ALL about durability and performance during wind, rain, and winter conditions. Canvas tent material is all about the density of the fabric’s weave. The tighter the weave, the greater the water resistance. When the canvas becomes wet the fabric absorbs water and swells. As the fabric swells, the gap between the fabric thread decreases, and the water resistance increases.
The fabric weight of the TETON Sports Mesa 10 Canvas Tent is 285 g/m² This weight is a middleweight density for a canvas tent, so it’s a great all-around density. Not too thick, not too thin. While a solid three-season tent, this may not be the best canvas tent option for harsh winter conditions.
The tent floor is constructed from 19oz interwoven polymer and has an optional tent footprint that’s manufactured from 150D polyester taffeta.
A large “D” shaped 4′ x 5′ (122 x 152 cm) zippered door is located at both the front and rear of the tent. Each door has a no-see-um mesh window that’s approximately 3.5′ x 4′ (107 x 122 cm). User reviews are mixed on if the tent is very hot, or cool in the summer heat. Users are in agreement that the tent stays warm during the winter.

Primary Sleeping Room
A D-shaped door and five tight weave mesh windows with interior YKK zippers provide both airflow and privacy. A ceiling gear loft and four hanging mesh storage compartments provide ample storage. When the rain fly is removed you’ll enjoy both the ventilation and nighttime star gazing through the no-see-um mesh ceiling.
Floor
The floor is a treated 300D Oxford weave and is detachable (Yes! You read that correctly!) from the tent body. The flooring configuration allows the heavy-duty floor material to connect with Velcro to the main tent body approximately 3″ (8 cm) off the ground. The raised connection point creates a bathtub-style floor.
Detaching the entire floor will allow you to clean or replace the floor thoroughly. Detaching one corner of the floor from the tent will allow for an easy sweep out the interior of the tent. We do recommend a footprint to provide a little extra protection for the tent floor.
We like the idea of a removable floor, particularly for sweeping out debris, but we’re not sure about bugs crawling into the tent through the velcro if it’s not seated properly.

A roomy one-room tent with partial no-see-um mesh side wall panels, the Marmot Limestone 6P Tents’ main body is constructed from 68D Polyester Taffeta. Leaving the rain fly off at night allows you to star gaze from the comfort of your sleeping bag.
The floor is 70D Polyester Taffeta with a 2000mm HH water resistance value. Do plan to pick up the footprint or a tarp for a bit of extra ground cover protection.

The NEMO Wagontop 8P Tent is a three-season single-walled, family-friendly, car camping tent. It’s best suited to a tent site where you’ll have room to enjoy both its interior and exterior spaces.
The NEMO Wagontop 8P tent is the largest tent we’re reviewing in this round-up with 125 ft² of sheltered camping space. With a rain fly-protected vestibule stretching out 55″ (140 cm) beyond the primary tent entrance, this tent stretches out almost 20′ (6.1 m).
The main tent body and rain fly are constructed from 75D polyester treated with polyurethane and provide 1500mm of water resistance. The tent floor has a denser thread count of 300D and has also been treated with polyurethane and provides 150mm of water resistance.
We do recommend a footprint to protect against sharp ground objects that may puncture the tent. (You could go a cheaper route with an inexpensive tarp, but if you’re buying a premium tent, why cut corners?)
The tent may be separated into two equally sized interior partitions. Each interior partition is 7′ 6″ x 8′ 4″ (228.6 cm x 254 cm).
Front Partition

The entire storage case is configured as a backpack, so you do have a little bit of mobility when it comes to your tent site selection. We suggest bringing a friend and coaxing them into caring it to a remote site for a weekend of glamping.
Evaluation Criteria: What to Look for in a Tall Camping Tent
Deciding what’s most important to you in a tent will determine the top factors when evaluating tents.
Every single tent in our Best of Tall Camping tents roundup is a tall tent that you can stand up inside. Our minimum height requirement is 6′ 4″ (193 cm). As a tall camper myself 6′ 3″ (191 cm), if I can’t stand up straight inside the tent, it’s not on our list.

Do I really need a ground cover or footprint?
A ground cover protects the tent from punctures and adds an additional layer of moisture protection between you and the ground.
Should I use different stakes than what came with the tent?
If you plan to camp in windy conditions, or very wet conditions, yes. Stronger tent stakes will keep your tent tight and dry.
